From Waste To Fuel

The Eco Home

Posted by admin in environment on 04 1st, 2010

Looking into it, it would seem that so many people out there are actually looking to buy new eco products that have been released in recent year, is this a good thing because it is going to make a difference or will it do nothing??

Mass Effect

If many people start to buy all kinds of eco friendly laundry baskets and bathroom accessories then it is safe to say I really do feel we will see a change. This is because it will force companies that do not currently sell many eco products to take notice and realise that this is where the demand for things is and they will start to create products around this.

People will still be buying from the smaller companies because the things they are selling will be of a much higher quality than the big cheeses but people that cannot afford this would immediately go to a supermarket or other top brand and buy from there for cheapness.

At the moment this is not the way that things are happening and it is not making much of a difference as it stands currently. A big reason that people are simply not buying many of these products is because they haven’t heard of them. A lot more marketing needs to be put out for eco friendly products so then we all can live with eco friendly bathroom storage!

it would certainly seem that it is more important than ever to let people know that these products are out there and that they do the job just as well as the other artificial products, buying the eco friendly products in the masses would make the world of difference..

So make sure when you are next out shopping that you buy something good for the environment!

Although it seems like alone you will not be making a difference just think of what would happen if everyone just bought something that was good for the environment.

Looking At Around-the-house Jobs As Being Zen-like Fitness Exercises

Posted by admin in environment on 03 21st, 2010

Looking for a way to increase muscle size but not by heading to some gym filled with large, sweaty men grunting and groaning over big weights? Well, there’s a way, though many people don’t believe it is so easy. That’s because they are not filled with focus such as found when one does housework while engaging in Zen. Now, think about that. Zen and housework: what’s not to like?

Even though we might think that it is highly unlikely to gain fitness from doing housework, think back to that old movie ‘The Karate Kid.’ Remember that Mr. Miyagi put young Daniel through his paces by making him paint fences and wax cars, for one. And though this sort of activity isn’t really needed, maybe grabbing a 10 gallon wet dry vacuum and focusing on pushing it around can be Zen and fitness at the same time.

It may seem a bit unusual or eccentric at first, but there is a lot of truth to the saying that the body will follow the mind in mutual achievement if it is desired. In other words, the mind can help the body overcome just about everything and this is true in the gym or in the home. So begin practicing calmness in a Zen-like way when doing housework and appreciating it for what it is.

As an example, think about finally going out there and cleaning out the garage of all its junk. Appreciate the simple act of physical labor while doing it, in other words. Try to find the old garden blowers that have been sitting, buried under junk and gathering dust. Go out to the garden and hold them to the side and began walking up and down the rows. Fitness will show up over time when doing so.

The point to all of this is to begin to appreciate the fact that a house environment offers a million different ways in which serene calmness can be cultivated like a Zen master, all while doing a bit of useful housework. It is somewhat metaphysical to think of the journey that the body and the mind will take, but focusing on the beauty of the activity really works when it comes to subtly encouraging fitness.

This is so even for the 80-year-old great-grandmother sitting on the porch doing needlepoint or sewing a quilt together. Practicing and focusing completely on the needlework but appreciating how simple and beautiful it is to do can keep the mind sharp, clear and also can call on the body to bring forth energies that it probably didn’t even know it had. Great Grandma is sure to appreciate it, for sure.

That’s why looking at around-the-house jobs as being Zen-like in their purity can be a very subtle yet effective way to begin gaining a little bit of fitness while not even meaning to do so. Truly, there are plenty of opportunities housework presents for meditation and appreciation. Doing just a little bit can encourage the body to improve its fitness in order to gain even more enjoyment from the act.

Why Not Make The Kitchen More Eco-Friendly?

Posted by admin in environment on 02 19th, 2010

It would certainly seem that being very eco-friendly is in fashion at the moment and that is not a bad thing by any means. Going out and ridding the world of global warming is not something that people need to worry about, people should be encouraged to do this.

It is pretty amazing to see just how many kitchen accessories are out there that are made for people who love the environment. Here are just some of the other ones.

Coasters

There are many different types of recycled coasters out there on offer and there isn’t really a very good excuse on why you should not go and buy them. is it really hard to actually get recycled coasters, all you do is pop your drink on them? There are many that use old manky coffee cups and others that use slightly better materials like yogurt pots. The bonus to getting one of these is that they are incredibly cheap.

Baking Sets

This is made from sustainable wood and is great for the entire family. So for every tree they put in, more and more are planted. Although this can be a bit more expensive it is a brilliant way at looking towards saving the environment, I would recommend doing this.

Recycled Glasses

If you are keen on the environment then getting recycled glasses has to be at the top of the list. Imagne skowly replacing all of those broken glasses you have with recycled glasses, if everyone did this it would make a huge difference.

Of course it doesn’t just end with the kitchen, you can go after all kinds of other products that make the house a lot more eco-friendly like tableware and home furnishings. Although the products are a little bit more expensive, quite often they are very well made and of course are a great way to make a difference!

Amazing House Built With Environment In Mind

Posted by admin in environment on 02 11th, 2010

This week on the popular TV program, ‘Grand Designs’ a beautiful house in Kent was featured. This house is near Staplehurst and is owned and built by architect Richard Hawkes and his wife Sophie. The house itself does not rely on mains water or central heating. Instead the house is completely eco friendly and does not use an ounce of un-necessary energy. The environmentally-friendly house aims to blend into its surroundings and be self-sustaining. It was featured on a double bill on the popular Channel 4 program, ‘Grand Designs’ hosted by none other than, Kevin McCloud.

The house itself in Kent features completely economical and eco friendly materials such as wood and even earth. The house boasts a truly stunning architures, has over four guest bedroom for friends and family to stay over, and even has its own pool and spa treatment room. The design originally resembles an Anderson Shelter, the building eventually reveals a huge, Gaudi-esque vaulted roof which is just magnificent to look at. The whole thing is literally topped off with tons of soil and then grassed over to look almost like an ancient house of some sort. It is truly marvellous to look at and at the same time it is extremely bizarre. The home is effectively a couple of timber-framed boxes resting under a huge, unsupported arch built from 26,000 handmade clay tiles. This is truly a magnificent acheivment for the architects and constructor’s as there is nothing else like this around the entire planet. They have built something special and very interesting. Although the house is meant to be quite old fashioned, it consists of modern fixtures and fittings, including wireless interconnected speaker systems and even ergonomic hand care door handles.

If you have never watched Grand Design before I would highly recommend it. The program makes excellent viewing and you can see all sorts of bizarre houses that have sprouted up around the UK and abroad. There are some great projects on there and I would strongly recommend watching it one day.

Posted by admin in environment on 12 21st, 2009

If you’re always searching for ways to make your home greener, this post title won’t be uncommon to you. Although first appearances make this post seem like a standard ‘make your home greener’ post, it’s not.

The majority of the other posts are based on improving your home and how you can save money in the process. They tend to talk about the basics like having loft insulation, not leaving appliances on standby, double glazing, things like that. This post is all about, what you can do after you’ve done all that.

Although you may have stopped your home from wasting large amounts of energy, there is one aspect you may have forgotten. Every so often we decide to redecorate our homes, this often leads to changes in everything from wallpaper to bathroom accessories. This is where you can make some improvements.

When you are having to choose new furniture, the environmental impacts rarely come to mind. I guess it’s a tough enough job to find something that everyone likes, without it being environmentally friendly too. But when you take into consideration how they are made, you realise that alot of energy is wasted in the process. Normally they are constructed in big factories, wasting lots of energy, then they get shipped back to the UK because they were made abroad.

Fortunately, due to everyone becoming more aware of our impact on the environment, many retailers are offering greener, more eco-friendly home furnishings.

From everything from tableware to kitchen accessories, there are lots of products out there that you can buy that are better for the environment. All these things you buy for your home all have an impact on the environment. This is something that should be in the minds of everyone when it comes to furnishing your home. Stopping your home from wasting energy isn’t the only way you can reduce your impact on the environment. Although it can’t be avoided with some home accessories, you’d be surprised at how many you really can buy that are more environmentally friendly.

New Stylish Patio Heaters Released that are Eco Friendly

Posted by admin in environment on 11 24th, 2009

We are constantly trying to get the most out of the outdoors, even now when the nights are getting darker and the weather is getting colder. Luckily, there has been a brand new range of patio heatershave been released that will let you do this.

A UK based heating company, Chillchase, has just released a brand new range of 3 patio heaters. The 3 different models are called Zeus, Neptune and Poseidon, with each one coming with different features and with a different price tag.

What makes the new Chillchaser heaters so much better is their great new style and massive range of features. Chillchasers patio heaters look totally different from any other patio heaters I’ve seen before. The reason why they can create such a new design is because they don’t use a gas heating method like normal patio heaters. These new heaters use a carbon fibre heating system which lets out quick, focused heat all while emitting no CO2 gas. Each of the heating tubes are replaceable and offer up to 8,000 hours of heat, pretty impressive.

Other great features that are included in Chillchasers’ patio heaters include an infrared sensor which detects movement and turns the heater on or off. All the heaters also come with a tip over feature which turns the heater off if the unit is knocked over.

The first of the three and the cheapest is the Neptune. To go with the features above, the Neptune patio heater also comes with a 360 dome light fitted to the top of the unit. This means that you won’t have to stand in the dark while keeping warm. At £299, it’s not a bad price to pay to keep warm and out of the dark.

The second heater and the middle priced heater is the Zeus. The Zeus heater, just like the Neptune, also features a light on the top of the unit. The only difference between the two is that the Zeus’ light doesn’t provide 360 degree lighting. With a price tag of £449, I’d rather have the Zeus any day.

The final heater in the range and the most expensive of the three is the Poseidon which, despite it’s water based name, isn’t watetproof. What makes the Poseidon the most expensive and the coolest is that it has a media player at the top of the unit with a 7 inch screen and built in speakers. At £849, it’s a high price to pay for the entertainment value.

If only they released an indoor version which would replace standard heaters or fan heatersas they are pretty clunky.
