From Waste To Fuel

Everything Can Be Recycled, Even Wood?

A week ago, Julia, my little step-sister ran to me and said that her science teacher taught them that carpet is recyclable.

– No it is not recyclable, I replied mindlessly . It could be possible to reuse it, but surely not possible to be recycled.

She kept on arguing with me and even added that those carpet recyclers had their own association in North America. I decided to go on Google and searched it out. As it appear, the little girl was amazingly right. There is really an organisation of carpet recyclers in USA. Also there is even a construction waste recycler in my area that handle such items. I found about Recyconstruction and Recymobililer in my area : they take care of recycling almost any  appliances, furniture, electronic material and construction debris. I had a conversation with an environment specialist, John, and he was showing to me about all the things that are possible to recycle as of now.

- Carpet is taken for the plastic it contains, it could either end up making new carpet or almost anything else that is made of plastic.
- Wood is carried to an electric producer, they use it to generate power. It is a smoke-free fermentation process that do not contribute to climate changes.
- Gypsum walls are passed through some machines and transformed into powder, pulp and paint are taken off, and the gypsum will either serve in agriculture or be used to make new drywall.

And it goes on and on to each type of recyclable material. It is incredibly great to realize that we are standing there. To people expecting to earn money out of their old couch or wood, It would be important to add that there is a fee to recycle that type of material.

- We used to be exclusively in the business of computer recycling a while ago. However, since at one point we were only recycling the items that we were accepting since there was no value to resell it,  we started to put a fee to some items that were more expensive to us to properly recycle than to send to landfill. When we realized that people were interested in making a difference to the earth and were were OK with paying a minimal charge to cover the handling of the products, we decided it was time to add other recycling services that wouldn’t be sustainable by their recyclable content to provide an alternative choice to landfill.

- Luckily, those services received a tremendous feedback, as it came to the market right in the middle of all green movements, residential or commercial. Businesses and building owners are more than aware of the green advantages, reason why a lot of building owners are competing to become LEED certified.
