Homes For Sale Juegos Trabajo | Environmental - Reducing Your Waste

Posted by admin in environment on 05 31st, 2010

homes for sale So by now, we’ve nearly all heard of the 3 Rs - reduce, reuse, recycle and yet so much of what many of us do is focus on the recycling. Don’t get me wrong, this definitely helps, but we need to try and do more to reduce what we use in the first place. If we focus on reducing what we use, we use less energy. Although recycling helps, we still need to use energy to convert our recycled waste into whatever it becomes in its new life. The following articles shows some pretty easy ways in which we can reduce our waste and often even save ourselves a bit is cash in the process.

juegos Firstly, before you go out and buy something, ask yourself if you really need it. If you know you can live without it, don’t buy it. Firstly you’ll save yourself some of that hard earned cash and you won’t end up having to deal with all of the packaging that today’s products are usually wrapped in. If you really don’t need, there’s a pretty good chance that you won’t even use it. If this is the case then, it will just clutter up your home until you throw it away or send it off to the charity shop requiring yet more of your precious time and money to get it to the shop in the first place.

trabajo As nature passes from becoming abundant to scarce; as we face unprecedented threats from climate change; as the world’s materially wealthy feel impoverished in their social relationships, and as the bulk of the world’s people become acquainted with democracy and higher living standards, the perfect storm for re-defining luxury is rapidly brewing. Accordingly, a look at the latest blogs and articles on luxury reveal a fresh and welcome trend: “luxury” is moving away from solely being about having. Consciousness about HOW goods are made and obtained, and what side effects they will have on others or the environment, is creeping in. That gorgeous piece of jewelry, for example - is it made from recycled metal, or at least from a mine with proper environmental and labor standards in place? Did that meat come from factory-farmed cattle, or from grass-fed animals raised on predator-friendly ranches? (Or better yet - is it really veg meat from organic, family-farmed soy?) Is that gorgeous plank floor made from old-growth wood, or from forest-certified or reclaimed timber?

What about all those old clothes that your kids have grown out of? Do you have a friend or neighbour that has young kids that would be grateful to receive a load of clothes? Many of us are happy not to have to spend a fortune on clothes that are just going to get grubby and worn through. If you don’t know anyone personally, get them down to the local charity shop if they are still fit to wear. If they are on the grubby side, what about using them as household cloths. Saves you from having to buy cloths to clean your floors, windows or cars and you are prolonging the life of the use of the fabric. (Did you know that it takes about 800 litres of water to make a single T-shirt?)

Carry out small repairs on clothing. Modern society has gotten so used to throwing out really good clothes that simply need a button sewing on or a seam re-stitched. A great idea for old jumpers is to unravel the wool (into a ball) and reuse the wool to make another garment. Even if you have a single hole in your knitwear, the chances are that the rest of the item of clothing is more than serviceable, just waiting to take on a new life. Apparently knitting is hot right now, so get that creativity going.

So before you rush out and buy it, or bin it, think about how important it is to own in the first place or get creative about a second life for the stuff you already own You can be published without charge. You can to republish this article in your website or blog. Please provide links Active.

Info For Alternative Energy Sources

Posted by admin in environment on 05 29th, 2010

Electricity is consumed in large amounts in today’s world. One of the main reasons for this is the rapid change of technology. When a high number of hi tech equipment, vehicles, etc enters the market, the people are inclined to purchase it. In the past although governments did not stress about it, a shortage of natural resources in the long term was a visible fact by most people. This is why finding alternative energy sources are a necessary and important factor.

A hundred long years ago, oil was an inexpensive resource that many people used without any hassle. Today this is a natural resource that is highly depleting. Countries that supply the resource charge high prices making it difficult for most governments to cope up with the hikes.

The first time the need for alternative energy sources came up in the United States in the 1970’s. An oil shortage in those years resulted in individuals staying at long queues in gas filling stations. It is not only vehicles that had this problem. Households suffered with a shortage of gas and other energy resources that were used in their day-to-day lives. This became a critical issue and experts started to find alternative energy sources to solve this issue.

Up to date, many experts have made several advancements in their search for alternative energy sources, but the fact remains that the prices of resources we use today are higher than never before.

The usage of wind, water and sun are the main components in the number of alternative energy sources found in the present day. It has been experimented and proved that geothermal power; hydropower or even solar power can be utilized in the production of electricity.

There may be several alternative energy sources that can be put to use, but not everyone can experience the same thing from different geographical locations. Simply stated, a person living in an area with fewer winds would not be able to experience the electricity generated by using the wind.

The same goes for individuals living in areas with less exposure to the sun. Solar power cannot be used in such locations. This proves that not every geographic location can be utilized for the generation of electricity.

Head Of Mineral Management Service Quits

Posted by admin in environment on 05 29th, 2010

In the wake of the disastrous BP oil spill, there are increasing calls for heads to roll, and one of the first is Elizabeth Birnbaum, or rather S Elizabeth Birnbaum, head of the Mineral Management Service. The Mineral Management Service, or MMS, part of the Department of the Interior, is the office in charge of off shore drilling. The role of MMS and BP in the spill is thus far unknown. What is clear is that Birnbaum is out of a job, and a moratorium on offshore drilling for oil is going to be in effect.

Article Source: Head of Mineral Management Service quits

Director of Mineral Management Service steps down

When the BP oil leak began, someone was going to have to face the music at some point. No one needs a loan until payday for an attorney just yet, however. The director of the Mineral Management Service, Elizabeth Birnbaum, is one of the first government officials to go in the wake of the disaster. She was asked by the Secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar, to resign according to New York Times. On Thursday, May 27, she announced her resignation.

Off shore drilling halted by moratorium

President Obama is announcing a moratorium on off shore drilling. According to the Los Angeles Times, the moratorium will last at least 6 months, and current plans for an offshore drilling rig off the Virginia coast will be scrapped. Some members of Congress have insisted the agency is already broken, and Birnbaum is only a scapegoat.

The moratorium may be good

While it is certainly true that off shore drilling can offset the need for imports, the need to not irreparably harm the ocean or coastlines is just as vital. One needs only to peruse the list of Superfund sites to see the legacy of extrication for profit, when corporate entities have done hideous damage and left the taxpayers to foot the bill. Business is business, but private business ceases to even remotely offer a defense when taxpayers have to pick up the check on the mess, when the offending corporate entities have absconded with the profits.

Is Volunteering For You?

Posted by admin in environment on 05 29th, 2010

Would you consider offering your time and services to volunteer in Tanzania? If not, why not give it a go? Volunteering Overseas is a very popular activity to partake in whether you are volunteering in Nairobi helping street orphans or working on a wildlife project saving endangered species. There is something for everyone to participate in. Volunteering has a very wide spectrum of activities within it so there is always a placement to suit all.

Volunteering is most certainly a once in a lifetime opportunity which should be treasured by all. It’s not everyday you are able to travel to another country and visit a local community whilst lending them a helping hand. Volunteering is a great opportunity not only to help the communities abroad who really need the help but also have the chance to experience the new cultures and traditions, the new foods, languages and of course the new landscapes and scenery. There is so much to be gained in a volunteering experience mostly the exchange of knowledge between you and the local people. Chances are you will learn a lot more about yourself on this trip than you ever through possible.

Millions of people volunteer every year all over the world in developing countries. It is a chance to help educate and teach these people who have maybe been denied an education or cannot afford it. It’s an opportunity to help the sick by aiding them with medical supplies and counselling. There are over 1 billion people alone in Africa and half of those are below the poverty line. This is not a problem that volunteers all over the world will be able to solve in a day but all your efforts help communities and change the lives of individuals. If we all do this then maybe just maybe we can all help change the future for some of the most unfortunate among us.

BP Pays Off Fishermen As Oil Spill Destroys Sea Life

Posted by admin in environment on 05 27th, 2010

The BP oil leak has sidelined fishermen as the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico rages. BP has been cutting checks to settle claims for a Gulf fishing industry in limbo, but those payments are a drop in the bucket compared to the oil spill cleanup costs BP has incurred so far. As of Monday, already about 65 miles of the Louisiana coastline has been fouled by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico 2010. An effort to plug the BP oil leak with a “top kill” may occur Wednesday and Congress is debating BP’s oil spill liability. Meanwhile, BP isn’t making any friends in Washington as lawmakers expressed outrage at the fact that the oil company continued to use a toxic oil spill dispersant despite directives to find an alternative.

Article Souce: BP pays off fishermen as oil spill destroys sea life

BP oil leak puts fishermen in trouble

The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico 2010 has resulted in the closure of a vast expanse of ocean to commercial and recreational fishing. CNNMoney.com reports that more than 23,000 workers and business owners along the Gulf Coast have filed claims for lost income. So far, BP has cut checks for payday cash on 9,000 claims totaling up to $ 27.8 million. Captains on fishing boats have been receiving $ 5,000 a month and deck hands $ 1,000. Owner of Super Strike Charters Damon McKnights, who operates three boats in Venice, LA, told CNN that he was expecting to pull in $ 50,000 a month during the gulf fishing season’s May to August peak.

The oil spill liability trust fund comes into play

BP recently announced that since the April 20 explosion that sank BP’s Deepwater Horizon drilling rig, the company has already exceeded $ 350 million, or $ 16 million per day, in oil spill cleanup costs. Because of a law passed in response to the 1989 Exxon Valdez spill in Alaska, BP is responsible for oil spill cleanup costs. The law, however, sets a $ 75 million limit on other kinds of damages, such as lost wages. Several Democratic senators, as reported by the Associated Press, introduced legislation Monday to raise the oil spill liability limit to $ 10 billion as it seems more likely that the Gulf Coast economic losses will exceed the current limit. Supported by oil industry fees, an Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund is also maintained in the federal government. For individuals, businesses and governments, it can make a total of $ 1 billion in payouts per incident.

Oil spill cleanup outpaced by BP oil leak

The BP oil leak has reached landfall on about 65 miles of Louisiana shoreline, Governor Bobby Jindal said Monday. Gov. Jindal implored the Army Corps of Engineers to immediately approve a plan to build artificial barrier islands out of sand to hold back the oil, according to the New York Times. Based on a figure given to members of Congress by a senior BP executive in a closed-door briefing on May 4, estimates of the quantity of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico 2010 range from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association’s 6.3 million gallons to a BP worst case estimate of 82.7 million gallons.

Method used in oil spill cleanup is highly toxic

As government officials sparred with BP over its failure to meet response effort deadlines, the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico 2010 cleanup struck a problem Monday. For refusing to discontinue use of a toxic dispersant to break up the oil slick, BP is now under a lot of tension. There were no less toxic alternatives, as BP claims, and so the company prepared a top kill to plug the ruptures well. Another New York Times article reports that since the BP oil leak began more than a month ago BP, has applied about 700,000 gallons of the dispersant in the gulf — the largest quantity of dispersant ever used on an oil spill in United States waters. The leak could possibly be stopped on Wednesday as BP hopes the top kill - pumping heavy liquid into the well - may just do the trick.

Indoor Gardening With UFO Grow Lights

Posted by admin in environment on 05 26th, 2010

Indoor Gardening With UFO Grow Lights

A fairly new addition in the tools for Sustainable Gardening are UFO Grow Lights. The technology is designed to make use of small LED lights in order to produce lighting which is suited for indoor gardening.LED Grow Light Review articles have often enumerated the many benefits of using this technology and how helpful and beneficial it is to people who have an indoor garden.

A lot of seeds actually benefit a lot from using UFO Grow Lights during the germination stage.A perfect example of such a seed is the lettuce seed which germination process relies so much in the proper application of light. If the lettuce is planted outside the garden, the seeds rely on natural sunlight but once planted indoors, it is up to the gardener’s discretion and skill to apply the right intensity of light that the plants need. This makes the UFO Grow Lights perfect for the germination of this particular seed because it offers enough bright light that the seed needs to germinate, it does not produce heat that would heat the soil which is bad for the lettuce seed. This allows the gardener to control both the soil and air temperatures in order to achieve the best rate of germination for the seed.

Hydroponic Gardening as well as indoor gardening enthusiasts prefer UFO Grow Lights because it is the best kind of bright light that does not emit heat which is deadly for young plants. This particular light is also a very popular light to use on plant seedlings because without bright lights, the seedlings would grow weak and spindly stems that struggle a lot to reach a light source. There are also different color temperatures in UFO Grow Lights which affects plant growth that an indoor gardener needs to understand. UFO Grow Lights temperatures are measured in (K) Kelvins. Those that are colored red and orange are the lowest color temperatures and are the colors which are used for the production of both plants and fruits. On the other hand, blue colored lights belong in the higher color temperatures and are used for growing vegetables. UFO Grow Lights are the ideal sources of light for every phase of plant growth because it only makes use of enough light spectrum that plants need in order to grow.Because it wastes no light spectrum’s, like green light, UFO Grow Lights actually use less power than conventional grow lights and this helps you to save money on electrical bills.Lastly, the UFO Grow Lights can last up to more than eighty thousand useful hours which assures you of a long life and more time to save money on your household electric bills.

Baboons Gobble Grapes In South African Wine Region

Posted by admin in environment on 05 25th, 2010

Cape Town – Baboons, it seems, prefer Pinot noir and nice Chardonnays grapes.

Baboons with a taste for Chardonnay grapes are terrorizing farmers in the Western Cape region, munching tons of grapes ready for harvesting. Farms in the Franschhoek Valley had been emptied by rampaging Chachma baboons, which sneak into secured plots and help themselves with top grade grapes.

They can easily wipe out up to two tonnes of grapes a week if the farmer is not alert enough, and that apparently makes about 1 500 to 2 000 bottles of wine.

Some grape farmers have on occasion lost up to 40% of their harvest  to the baboons.

Winemakers have resorted to using noisemakers and rubber snakes to try to drive the baboons off during harvest season, as these baboons are very attracted to the combination of starch and sugar, which is of course the basic grape.

Baboons have raided South Africa’s vineyards in the past, but farmers say this year is worse than previous ones because the primates have lost their usual foraging areas due to wildfires and ongoing expansion of grape-growing areas.

During harvest season from January to March, winemakers put up serious front-line defences. Some try to scare off the baboons by blowing into horns called “vuvuzelas” that are often used by South Africa’s soccer fans.

Farmers have erected electric fencing which often doesn’t work because baboons can dig underneath the fence or swing above it from trees to get to the vineyards. They also test the fence for weak spots, and If they are shocked, they certainly scream, but don`t accept defeat, because these determined creatures will most likely return the next day.

Opinion has it that the problem will not ease or go away, as the vineyards continue to expand in the area and onto the lower slopes of the mountains which is traditionally the baboons` territory for foraging.

The conflict is expected to increase as farmers take up more of the land, as the baboons love the mountainous area, creating a bit of competition for wine lovers!

What Is The Function Of The Grand Canyon Conservation Fund?

Posted by admin in environment on 05 24th, 2010

One of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, the Grand Canyon draws upward of five million visitors a year, a fact which is both a blessing and a curse to one of our most valuable national treasures. Every one of those five million humans impact a natural phenomenon that began at least 17 million years ago, transforming a quiet wilderness to an often noisy, crowded recreational area.

Because of the depredations caused by the invasion of humanity, a group of river outfitters established the Grand Canyon Conservation Fund to try to mitigate the damages done by both visitors and profit-oriented vested interests. The non-profit organization addresses issues that affect Grand Canyon park management while simultaneously attempting to maintain its ecological and aesthetic integrity.

Managed entirely by volunteer outfitters, the Fund is used to help non-commercial conservation groups to offer the outdoor experience to those who are unable to access them because of economic or physical issues. About eighty percent of river trip passengers donate a dollar a day to the Fund when booking their Grand Canyon River Rafting trip through one of these licensed professionals. Because there are no administrative costs, every cent of these donations is used for protecting the Grand Canyon and allowing less privileged individuals to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime camping adventure. Grants are never awarded to profit-making companies, government agencies or individuals, but rather to selected groups, as determined by officers of the Grand Canyon Conservation Fund.

The GCCF also advocates against noise and carbon emission by limiting the use of helicopters and motorized rafts on the river and, in a series of legal actions brought against the National Park Services, was able to limit the number, location and seasonal use of offending vehicles. Partially due to these restrictions, only one river trip per year is allowed for any individual. This means that reservations cannot be made by anyone who has taken a river trip during the last calendar year.

Although the proprietors of the white water rafting businesses that surround the Colorado River obviously make a living by booking trips, they are more invested in conservation and maintenance of the Canyon than in lining their pockets. The tireless efforts of the Grand Canyon Conservation Fund to keep this precious natural resource as pristine as possible is to be applauded by all who are fortunate enough to spend time in this most breathtaking of all our National Parks.

Various Dust Collector Models

Posted by admin in environment on 05 24th, 2010

There are all different kinds of dust collectors that are available. One of the most important aspects about these devices is whether or not they will be utilized for home use or industrial reasons. The other important consideration is to remember that there is a huge difference between air filtration systems and dust collectors. Air filtration systems actually use a removable filter and dust collectors use bags to collect the fine particles.

These types of units both work by drawing air into themselves and trapping the dust and particles which are contained in that air. Some of the most common forms of a dust collector that you would find in the home may include the wet dry vac or even the tabletop saw with a dust collector bag attached. People who enjoy woodworking in their house sometimes install a larger dist filtration on the wall in order to keep the air clear.

The more prevalent style of these unit types are typically used in the industrial or commercial environments. They operate a lot like vacuum cleaners and general come with one or several hoses. A company may choose to buy a unit which is portable and can be relocated as the need arises to keep the air filtered in different areas. The industry’s primary function will largely determine the kind of unit that is needed. There is a variety of prototypes available in these transportable collectors. One, two or three stage units are available, with each operating somewhat differently.

It one stage units is normally used for light fabrication or woodwork. The state two or three units are capable of differentiating the particles which are removed. Bigger pieces will be directed into one compartment while dust is screened into another. It is these kinds of units that might also have the ability to eradicate odors and scents. This equipment is necessary to protect the employees’ health and safety as federal regulation dictates the quality of the workplace environment together with particle removal processes for various manufacturers.

There is also the cyclone dust collector where the air is drawn in through the top of the cone and the larger particles drop as they are spun around. The air that is released from the unit’s rear may be either aerated to the outside or sent through a secondary air purification structure.

Whichever dust collector type a person or company decides to buy will be contingent upon the kind of manufacturing or fabricating procedure that is used. The federal and state agencies might also monitor these, which is why it is important to ensure that you remain amenable. Having these types units will make sure that the air stays clean for all that are working in these types of industries.

For more information, visit these suggested sites relating to a dust collection hose. You can find out all you need to know about several types of systems including the dust collector bags.

Kevin Costner’s Oil Spill Cleanup Machine To Tackle BP Oil Leak

Posted by admin in environment on 05 23rd, 2010

The next project for Kevin Costner is the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico 2010. Costner and a team of scientists he is funding demonstrated a centrifuge machine to BP oil leak officials Thursday. Next week BP is expected to test the Kevin Costner oil spill cleanup machine. The gulf oil spill cleanup has been intensifying since an oil rig leased by BP exploded and sank on April 20. A gushing oil geyser on the ocean floor that has poured millions of gallons of crude into the gulf has yet to be capped. The spreading oil slick is fouling the Louisiana shoreline and has entered a current that will carry it to Florida and beyond.

Source for this article: Kevin Costner’s oil spill cleanup machine to tackle BP oil leak

Kevin Costner’s oil spill cleanup machine

The Kevin Costner oil spill cleanup machine was created because of a past oil spill disaster. The Exxon Valdez oil spill which dumped 11 million gallons of crude into Alaska’s Prince William Sound deeply affected Kevin Costner. ABC News reports that Costner has contributed $ 15 million – which is no mere payday cash loan — over the past 15 years to fund a team of scientists in developing the technology to clean up massive oil spills. Costner bankrolled a company called Ocean Therapy Solutions, which has created a powerful centrifuge that separates oil from water, stores it in a holding tank and sends the clean water, that is 99.9 percent purified, back into the ocean.

Ideas pouring in for the oil spill cleanup

The Kevin Costner oil spill cleanup machine was demonstrated to BP officials in New Orleans last week. At the time, the New Orleans Times-Picayune mocked Costner’s centrifuge in an article, listing it along with many different ideas people have been submitting to a BP oil spill hotline for addressing the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico 2010. A device that resembles a giant shower curtain, oil-eating bacteria, and bombs are among the 10,000 fixes people have proposed to counter the environmental disaster. The New York Times reports that BP had approved six of Ocean Therapy Solutions’ 32 machines for testing. Sucking oil from the water and then separating it is what the giant vacuum machine is supposed to do. Costner will also donate $ 26 million to the cause.

Is Ocean Therapy the Solution?

BP oil spill officials and Ocean Therapy Solutions are working to determine where to test the Kevin Costner’s oil spill machines. Depending on what the results are of the tests, the Ocean Therapy Solutions technology could be running in one week. Ocean Therapy Solutions claims the largest machine can separate 210,000 gallons of oil from in one day, which nearly matches the volume of oil that BP and the U.S. Coast Guard have estimated is pouring into the Gulf There are other Scientists saying that the volume of the BP oil leak is as much as 3.4 million gallons a day.

Oil Spill gushed away by BP

The Kevin Costner machine is only the latest response to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico 2010. The Associated Press reports that heavy oil is starting to clog Louisiana marshes, while out at sea huge plumes of partly submerged crude have reached the loop current, a powerful stream of ocean water that could transport the BP oil leak to Florida and beyond. BP officials said a procedure called a “top kill” that pumps heavy mud that could possibly plug the BP oil leak will not be ready until next week.
