Can You Help Antarctica with a Homemade Solar Water Heater System?

Posted by admin in environment on 05 31st, 2009

With so much urgent talk of the the perils of the greenhouse effect and global warming these days, there is a growing public conscience about the fate of Antarcia as the harbinger of the fate of the earth itself. In fact, there is a growing trend of concerned citizens turning to homemade solar water heater systems to help our sick earth. An even more passionate group are embracing the next step to homemade solar water heater and that is the homemade solar generator. If you are going to do this, make sure you do your research. Electricity is very serious. Start by reading homemade solar water heater system and solar generator reviews. Doing this gives you the power to save the earth and Antartica. If not for our gross dependence on traditional polluting energy sources, the fear is that Antarctica would not be in such peril. The concern is that the ice that the continent is made up of is melting quicker than normal and not freezing again as it typically does with a very predictable pattern. The fear is that this will inevitably increase the sea level to a degree that will cause major metropolis and land mass to go under water and leave millions of people without shelter and even causing death.

So who are the people claiming these assertions? Well there are many scientists that have been looking at the earth’s climates and weather systems for a long time and trying to make sense of them. The initial reason for doing this was not to calculate that implications of the greenhouse gases that are intensifying the sun’s intensity and preventing the heat from escaping. Initially they wanted to study the earth for signals of impending natural disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes, and tsunamis. From the time that they have begun logging the data, they have observed a troubling pattern in events such as the changing average temperature and the rising sea level among other trends like the size of Antarctica’s ice cap. And they appear only to be going.

Then they start seeking out answers to why this is occuring and the answer is typically global warming. They reference the surge in gases like carbon dioxide which are allegedly increasing because of the millions of cars and machinery that burn oil based products worldwide. Supposedly this changes the qualities of the atmosphere that hold in the energy from the sun much like a green house does. What people don’t realize is that these are all theories to explain trends in the environment that no one has any clue about. It is a fact that Antarctica melts in areas and at different times. Since we have begun keeping records of these events, there is evidence that the land mass is shrinking, but this is very erroneous thinking.

Of course it has only been a few decades since we have had the ability to make specialized measurements like this. It may seem like that is enough time to make good predictions about the earth which is millions of year old (some say billions). You just can’t make definitive statements about trends that may just be natural cycles that are 500 years in length. Even 100 year or 50 year cycles would not have been fully measured yet. So we must cool our jets and not take ourselves so seriously. We know much less about Antarctica’s slow meltdown and many other phenomena that appear to be trending towards the same critical point than we realize. Whatever the truth is, you can make a difference by installing a homemade solar water heater or solar generator. Make a difference today.

Do you want to live a green life?

Posted by admin in environment on 05 30th, 2009

When you buy anything made within a 100 mile radius of your community you’re casting a wide net of green mindedness.  Whether you’re buying from a farmer, carpenter, winery or a coffee shack, using local resources builds the entire community up.  The money you spend stays circulating within your area, keeps small businesses thriving, cuts down on transportation costs to and from the source and  pride in the product will show.  Local merchants have a positive reputation to nurture if they want to survive so customer care is generally quite a bit better.

Go green, go local and stay happy with the quality of products you get.  A local farmers’ market is a treasure trove of unique, personal resources.  Hand-crafted edible and non-food items made by your neighbors are one-of-a-kind gems and they’re easier to get information about.  You can ask the designer or the grower when, where and how it was made.  If you see a craft or skill you share with a vendor, you can ask where they get their supplies and why they chose that place. You can visit many of the farms and studios your favorite items come from to get an even better idea of the growing or making process.

Go green when you get local products by reducing packaging waste and costs.  Bring your own mug for that morning espresso and grab a bag of fresh-roasted beans or a muffin that was made 2 hours ago by the baker.  You kept a paper cup and box out of the landfill and didn’t contribute to the use of extra fuel for shipping the beans or muffin across state.  How easy was THAT?  With all the fresh produce available during the warmer months, why not grab an iced tea, some totes and visit the small farms near you?  More and more of these little farms are letting you go pick your own produce if you want.  No trucking fees, plenty of foods and flowers to pick from and the only packaging used is newspaper to wrap delicate things in your totes.

Go green, get to know your area, crafts people and resources better.  There are still many local businesses that, once you have a good relationship with them, will even barter some their wares for yours.  The more you support your local merchants the more you’ll see come back to your community.

Environmentally Responsible Lifestyle

Posted by admin in environment on 05 28th, 2009

If you want to a more environmentally friendly or green home to help protect the earth, it may not be as difficult as you believe. With just a few small adjustments to your daily routines, you can easily make a positive environmental impact. One of the best areas to start is your own home. Try to get your hands on an efficient shower head. Unfortunately, old shower head use twice the amount of water than newer efficient ones. Another good idea is to get a dishwasher or washing machine with a four or five star energy rating. This rating means the machine is a world leader in minimizing water and electricity use.

Anyone who wants to become more environmentally and ‘go green’ only needs to follow a few simple steps. The first thing to do is look at improving the efficiency of your household appliances. If you are able to get a more efficient shower head then you should definitely do so. New shower heads use less than half the amount of water as old ones, and this is a great saving. Also it is a good idea to purchase energy efficient whitegoods like dishwashers and washing machines. There is a star rating in most countries that will tell you how energy efficient an appliance is.

Trying to go green and improve your environmental footprint really is not too hard. All you have to do is look around your house and change a few simple everyday appliances. The first thing that needs to be changed in most houses is the shower head. In the old days shower heads wasted a lot of water, but their modern equivalents have the amount lost. This is a great saving and the first thing you should do. Next, you should try to upgrade your washing machine and dishwasher to the most energy efficient models on the market. You can normally judge the efficiency of a model by a star rating on the side of the unit, five stars being the most efficient.

What is Eco Hosting

Posted by admin in environment on 05 27th, 2009

The thought might be crossing your mind saying green web hosting?  Is there going to be a green label on my site?  Do I get a green banner-Is their going to be a green banner?  No green web hosting is just like any green product is good for the environment. You might be trying to think how green web hosting is able to help the environment.

Web hosting requires a lot of energy to use.  There is a certain amount of energy each server will require.  This energy requirement is high because these servers need to stay cool and have no down time.  With this a large amount of energy is required.  At these web hosting centers you will see 1,000’s of computers running.  This will keep the electrical bill permanently high.
When mentioning green web hosting it is the way they get their energy is what we are talking about.  There are a number of green web hosting companies that are starting the trend towards earth friendly energy sources.  With green energy we are talking about sources such as wind and solar.  Companies can this energy by their own equipment or purchasing energy from different greens sources.

The benefit of green web hosting is the benefit on the environment.  None of the technical issues will change with your website.  Using green hosting is a choice for each web master.  While there will be no improvements because of green web hosting you won’t see any negative issues.  Many times people thing it is more expensive with green hosting.  Using green hosting will not affect the bottom line as their prices are usually around the same as other hosting options?.

What Can You Do to Prevent Climate Modification?

Posted by admin in environment on 05 26th, 2009

Climate modification is essentially the excessive heating of the planet, which results in dramatic climatic changes. So, are there ways to prevent climate modification? Yes! When you choose to build a wind generator for your household’s source of clean energy, you are making one of the most significant choices possible to help prevent climate modification. Because of the changing societal conscience about renewable energy, more and more homeowners are looking to do-it-yourself kits to build a wind generator. Wind has been harnessed for for centuries for many uses including as a powerful souce of energy. More and more scientists and researchers are saying that when power within the moving air can be harnessed properly, wind can be effectively used as a renewable energy source.

How can wind be converted into energy is a question that is commonly asked when one first decides to build a wind generator? Using a wind turbine is the answer. A wind turbine is really just like a huge fan that can take the kinetic energy available in the wind and convert it into mechanical energy. When this mechanical energy is used by any type of machinery like a pump then such a machine is known as a windmill. But don’t do this with just any kit. Make sure the kit you use is created by a certified professional. Use the wrong kit and electricity can be very dangerous. Make sure you read reviews if you build a wind generator for your home.

In a lot of ways, the highly volatile issues surrounding energy is helping the climate modification debate. Coal and oil have powered the world’s industrial revolution. Oil is not available in many countries while coal is. Circumstances being what they are, the largest concentrations of oil are found in areas with significant political and armed conflict. All you have to do is look at the circumstances in Iraq to understand this. With the growing China economy, there now seems to be a universal understanding that oil alternatives are necessary.

Maybe it’s karma but almost all of the alternatives to oil are favorable ways to slow down the rate of climate modification. Whether we are talking about hydropower, solar, wind, geothermal or even nuclear energy, each alternative power source produces significantly less pollution than classic fossil fuels. There is one very simple reason why less pollution is the key.

A major byproduct of using fossil fuels for energy is the much discussed greenhouse gas. Carbon dioxide is the by-product of using oil regardless of whether you use it to produce electricity or to start the car up. Carbon dioxide is a major greenhouse gas. Reducing the volume of it in the atmosphere will greatly reduce the greenhouse effect. We should see improvements in the atmosphere as our energy production evolves away from oil. Of course, whether we actually get around to this anytime soon is the bigger issue.

A second major way to prevent climate modification is to stop deforestation. Vast forests, such as the one found in the Amazon River Basin in South America are being clear cut. This has a devastating impact on climate modification. Nature being what it is, it has a natural method for filtering harmful gases such as carbon dioxide out of the air. It does this through photosynthesis with plants. Dense, huge forests are the biggest and best filters of carbon dioxide. By cutting them down, we reduce the ability of the planet to filter out the bad gases while we continue to pump more of the gases into the atmosphere. Any way you measure it, it is a formula destined to cause trouble.

Can you help to prevent climate modification? Yes. We need to kick our oil habit and stop wiping out our forest areas.

You can absolutely help! Start with education and make the choices that will prevent climate modification like choosing to build a wind generator for your source of power.

Global Warming: Fact or Fiction?

Posted by admin in environment on 05 25th, 2009

As scientists log increments in the average temperature of the earth, debate marches on about whether or not this warming is natural or caused by the activities of people. Some people who have studied the issues surrounding global warming say that it is just a hoax and that there is no such thing. However, others disagree and believe that since the industrial revolution, we are having a negative affect on our environment.

The best place to start is to look at what we have already been led to believe.

The Greenhouse effect is the relationship between the earth and the sun. The sun provides the earth with the heat and energy it needs and the earth releases back that energy into space.

The greenhouse effect comes into play as the gases in the earth trap that energy so that it cannot be released back into space therefore, warming the earths environment.

The greenhouse effect is natural and even vital to our existence. If there were no greenhouse effect, the earth would be too cold for life to exist.

Methane, carbon dioxide and water vapor are all gases that trap energy from the sun thereby enabling the warming of the earth.

It is common knowledge that plants provide carbon dioxide (CO2) but most people aren’t aware that they also eliminate carbon dioxide.

This is because, when a plant dies and is buried into the earth, these plants become fossil fuel which is coal and oil.

When coal and oil is burned, this then removes the carbon dioxide from the air around it.

Before cars filled our streets and machinery was invented 200 years ago, global warming was a non-issue.

The earth’s own natural gases would trap energy to warm the earth. But since the industrial revolution, more gases are being pumped into the atmosphere which has resulted in more energy being trapped and global warming.

There are ongoing debates between activists and scientists on the subject of whether or not humans are the cause of global warming. However, I believe everyone can agree that when something unnatural occurs, it disrupts the natural order of things.

If we are pumping more gases into the atmosphere than is normal, then it would be natural to expect this to impact the environment. But whether or not this impact is the cause of global warming, well, we will have to leave that debate to the scientists.

It is said that in the last century the earth has warmed by 1%, although this is not a massive amount, it still could be an unnatural 1% which would have an effect on the earth’s climate.

The truth of the matter is, the earth works in a certain way that even the best scientists in the world cannot fathom it. We can’t assume that we know it all because there may be unknown factors that have not been accounted for.

It is easy to conclude that humans are having some kind of impact on the environment in comparison to 200 years ago, but is this the cause of global warming? I don’t believe it is possible to say either way. But what we do know is that we need to do what we can to help the environment.

Whatever the real truth is, you can definitely make a difference by turning your home into a green house (pun intended) and build a renewable energy generator. We can help the earth this way, one household at a time.

Pros And Cons Of Residential Solar Energy System

Posted by admin in environment on 05 24th, 2009

Harnessing the power of the sun’s ray to create energy to power our place is really appealing.

But the issue is, Is everything about solar energy good? having a look at the present cost of fossil fuel-based electricity, it is sort of unreal to convert into solar energy system. However, with the heightening concern on the state of the earth, there’s actually a requirement to find other ways of energy except for what power plants are using at the moment. Where do you place yourself? Whether you are a supporter of clean energy or just care about where your financials go, taking a look at the pros and cons of home solar energy system will help you decide as to whether to convert or not. Pros Solar energy is free. Do you know the earth soaks up 174 pettawatts of solar radiation? This implies that we’ve got more than enough source of free energy to power each house on the planet. Unfortunately, almost all of our energy is still drawn from oil, gas and coal. But in latest years, there’s a smooth increase of requirement for alternative and renewable energy like solar power. It is predicted that the requirement for alternative sources of energy will rise by 53% between 1999 and 2020.

Solar energy is clean, renewable and sustainable. As the energy made from the sun’s rays does not produce byproducts like those from fossil fuel power plants ( sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, mercury or CO2 ), it doesn’t make a contribution to pollution. Accordingly, the rise in the employment of solar energy and other alternative forms of energy will decrease the clamor for greenhouse gases-producing power plants. The cost of photovoltaic cells is continuously decreasing. The clamor for solar panels has risen by 57% in the U. S. In 2007 and is continuously accelerating on an once a month basis. The demand increase results to the improvement of solar technology in total. The costs of photovoltaic cells have decreased on average of 4% each year during the last 15 years. Solar panels can be installed on most rooftops, dumping the problem of finding an appropriate place for installation. Solar panels need almost no upkeep.

The first photovoltaic cells technology is employed for most satellites orbiting our earth today which are not maintained at all. Many solar panel makers give twenty-five to forty years guaranty on their products. Because most areas of the country receive an important quantity of daylight across the year, solar panels can be installed anywhere. Many states in the country give tax breaks and deductions to homes who desire to install solar energy system.

Check with your state legislature the price of these motivations.

Cons

Whilst the costs of PV cells are in constant decline, the price of installation is significantly high compared to the present electrical cost.

But the good thing is, after your 1st money out, you do not have to pay each month on electrical bills for the remainder of your life. On areas towns and areas with heavy pollution problem, solar energy may not work as fine. Weather can also have an effect on the potency of solar energy. If it is raining, overcast weather or if there’s a hurricane, the solar panels’ potency is reduced. You are only manufacturing energy during day time. These are general pros and cons you may encounter when considering the conversion to solar energy system. It might be best if your call relies on location, cost, budget, discounts, tax allowances and practicality.

Why Is EPA Important?

Posted by admin in environment on 05 22nd, 2009

recyclables

On December 2nd, 1970, Richard Nixon made history by charging an agency, the EPA, to monitor the growing problems with pollution and ecosystems. The Environmental Protection Agency is a government agency which ensures that the health of humans is protected, as well as preserving out natural environments. Without this valuable agency, the environment would be in dire need, indeed.

The EPA is not alone in its fight to keep the world a clean place. But it does play an instrumental role in convincing other countries to join in the fight to lower pollution levels and encourage more people to participate in recycling programs in their area. Even the Kyoto Protocol, of which the United States is a part, determines the amount of green house gas emissions that are allowed, thus having an effect on each and every citizen of the world.

Perhaps the greatest contact the American citizen has with the Environmental Protection Agency is the recycling program found in local cities and towns. There are laws governing the illegal dumping of hazardous waste into the environment. They push for corporations and businesses to join a recycling program to benefit the environment and serve as an example, with regard to the serious nature of pollution and overflowing landfills.

The Environmental Protection Agency covers endangered species, as well as air, water, land and hazardous waste pollution. They help to protect the environment in more ways that you could possibly think one agency is capable of doing but they manage to get it done. Without this agency regulating the industry and helping people get into a recycling program, this country would be in an appalling condition.

Visit www.epa.org for more information on how the Environmental Protection Agency works on a daily basis. You can give back to your community and help show others that recycling is not that hard. You can keep landfills free of recyclables and start a grass roots campaign to get more cities on track for recycling. Just doing your part is one small step in keeping more useable garbage out of your local landfill. Consider it your civic duty to help start a recycling program in your area and teaching others that big changes start with the efforts of all concerned. Do your part and you will begin to see others taking those small steps as well.

Impact of Natural Disasters

Posted by admin in environment on 05 20th, 2009

In the past several years, it certainly seems like the amount of natural disasters has increased dramatically. We’ve all watched the forecasts for the deadly hurricanes that slowly approach the shorelines and pray that they don’t strike with too much fierceness. We’ve seen the aftermaths of the tornadoes that seemingly appear out of the sky without any warning and destroy everything in its path. The entire world stared in wonder at the unrelenting tsunami that struck in the Indian Ocean years ago and took 150,000 lives as its souvenir. At the current moment, a volcano in Hawaii is showing its glory and attracting thousands of tourists to witness one of the most spectacular of all natural disasters.

Tornadoes can be discovered a few moments before they hit but most of the time, there is not much forecasters can do to warn the people ahead of time. It happens so fast that often times, people barely have enough time to make it to shelter.

Luckily, through research and a lot of brave people who run towards the storms when the rest of the populations are running away, we’ve learned much about them. Obviously, no one will ever be able to learn how to prevent them but at least we know how they happen and why. High school students learn about hurricanes and tornadoes, thunderstorms and avalanches in their science classes. Experiments will be performed. Previous natural disasters throughout history will be studied. And yet, there is something about natural disasters that will keep them somewhat of a mystery.

In every corner of the world, natural disasters have had some sort of impact. Nature has its way of letting human beings know that it has more control over the planet than we like to believe. Natural disasters cannot be prevented. They can, however, be forecasted at times and some of the outcomes can be prevented. Thanks to modern day technology, we can see hurricanes coming before they have the chance to perform a sneak attack.

There are a lot of sources online and information about being prepared. Early planning can save a lot of lives and prevents more damages. So even if you live in an area that is not prone to natural disasters, learning safety tips and preparing is always a good idea.
